Sound Off: How Do You Speak?

In the spring issue of PxP (coming out next week!), we review shows that explore different ways of speaking - with words, with music, with dance, with sounds.

I speak with my body. Dance is my passion. When I dance I tell a story or have a conversation. Not only do I use dance as a way to speak, I use my facial expressions. If I like something or don't like something, you can tell by looking at my face.

I write songs.

I sing.

I'm expressive in my body language and facial expressions.

In my style/clothing choices for the day.

I speak through song. At times, I feel that singing a few lyrics from a song can convey more emotion and thought than a thousand of my own spoken words. When I sing, I pour my heart and soul into the performance.

I speak within art.

I can draw emotions, thoughts - wishes, even.

I can express myself with lines on a paper.

Isn't that how we make letters anyway?

Everything has a meaning.

I speak by dancing, singing, my facial expressions, cooking with my own twist, the way that I dress, my body language, and the way that I act towards you.

I wish I could dance, but I speak through images and music. It's like the saying goes, "A picture says a thousand words." I also think that music is one of the most unique forms of communication that goes beyond words to convey meaning. Whether it's when I sing or play an instrument, I can often get an emotion across much better than literally speaking it.

I express myself through words, primarily written words- I find that I can do my creativity justice when I lay out my ideas in tangible letters rather than -most often :)- garbled utterances. I also speak through my gestures, my art-the length of brushstrokes, the tone of color, the drama of composition, the volume of shapes- and in my three languages, and when that doesn't suffice I communicate through entertaining facial expressions and song.

I speak through other people's words. I can project my own meanings and thoughts and ideas and dreams on to a set piece of words that someone else wrote, no matter what it is. I can think outside of the box and I can make people listen. I can make actors value my ideas and audiences see my point of view.
Even though it's not even me who is speaking, I like being able to use other people as my canvas. Even though the words are coming out of their mouths, it's definitely me who is speaking.
